When we bought this home in 2015, we envisioned a tranquil desert retreat with influence from Morocco and Spain. During escrow, it was uncovered that the home was in fact the first home Albert Frey designed and built in the desert, and everything changed. We had 2 original photos to work off of, and delved into uncovering the essence of Frey’s early work; boxes “dropped” in the middle of the desert with influence from ancient adobe homes. After years of refining plans, construction began in early 2019. We custom designed and built all cabinetry as well as select furniture pieces, a custom range hood mirrored from a fireplace in the Frey II House, all corrugated metal iron work, and included commercial grade doors as a nod to Frey’s use and love of industrial materials in a residential space.
