Low Rise LA:
5826 Marmion Way
The task was to develop a low rise housing + retail development at the corner of Marmion Way & N Ave 59 in Highland Park, Los Angeles.
Considering The Getty Center as a precedent study, the development consists of 8 units of 3 floor plans (studio, 1 bd, 2 bd) as well as a community center at the heart. The lower level of the center is a retail and gallery space with local rotating exhibitions and the upper level is a communal workspace and self-service coffee and food service bar.
Each unit has its own private balcony or outdoor space, adding ample square footage to the compact sized units as well as privacy between each unit. The community space promotes collaboration and creativity amongst residents and the surrounding community.
The project addresses LA’s immediate need for housing in walkable areas close to public transportation, while also providing solutions for responsible development within the community. I addressed these issues with creating varied floor plans but with a simple, easily reproduced and constructed design.
